Shrunga Giri Sri Shanmukha Swamy Temple

Shrunga Giri Sri Shanmukha Swamy Temple is at RR Nagar, Bangalore. The presiding deity is Lord Shanmukha in a soaring temple tower on a naturally formed hill featuring all of the six faces. The temple complex has Pancha mugha (Five Faced) Ganesha at the foothills and Lord Shanmukha at the top of the hill besides Lord Shiva. The foundation stone for the temple was laid by His Holiness Sri Sri Bharati Teerthamaha Swamiji Jagadguru Shankaracharya (Sri Sringeri Sharadapeedam) in 1995.

21st November, 2021 – Sunday

We reached the temple in extremely heavy rains and in spite of that we decided to climb up. The temple entrance features two artistic peacocks. Once you climb up around twenty-odd steps, you would reach the complex of Pancha mugha (Five Faced) Lord Ganesha. Make sure to go around the deity and peek through the window walls to see the different facets of the Lord.

Upon climbing up another forty-odd steps, one would reach the second complex housing Lord Spadiga Shiva Linga. With the darkness and the sounds of Om chanting echoing around, the complex felt euphoric. The complex also has a huge Thirishoolam adorned with snake.

A steep climb of another fifty steps would take you to the main deity. The complex walls are painted with the temples of Thiruparamkundram, Palani, Thiruthanni, Swami Malai, Thiruchendur, and Pazhamudhircholai. Also, you can notice a huge collection of Ganesh Idols, probably collected from different places. The complex dome has Lord Muruga’s Vel (Weapon).
